Experience is the name of the game for the Pratt High School girls tennis team, which begins the 2008 season tomorrow at Lyons.
Head coach Larry Kahmeyer, back after a several year hiatus from coaching, has eight returners on his 11-member squad.
That number includes seniors Angelica Botello, Marina Dobbs, Amanda Schmidt, and Jessica Voss.
“It’s a good group of girls and they’ve got good attitudes and work ethic,”?Kahmeyer said.
The team also includes juniors Andrea Clarkson and Catherine Schotte, sophomores  Jessica Miracle, Caroline Riney, and Alexis Scott, and freshmen Naomi Burrell and Hannah Taylor.
“We’re a small squad,” Kahmeyer said. “I’ve got 11 and I’d like 12 to get a full JV team.”
PHS will host one varsity invitational and two junior varsity events during the season.
But first, the varsity gets things going with their 3 p.m. trip to Lyons tomorrow.
Kahmeyer has had the varsity players selected for several days, noting that he has just one decision left to make before the inviational at Lyons.
Jessica Voss and Andrea Clarkson will be Pratt’s varsity singles players. “At this point I still don’t know who’s going to be playing number one and number two,” Kahmeyer said.
Pratt’s number one doubles team is Marina Dobbs and Catherine Schotte while Caroline Riney and Amanda Schmidt will play number two doubles for PHS.
Overall, Kahmeyer is pleased with his team, though he hesitates to predict anything as far as league and regional finishes go.
For now at least, he is enjoying being back in the coaching ranks and watching the girls progress as tennis players.
After the season opener at Lyons, the Pratt varsity will travel to Larned on Thursday, Sept. 4.
The Pratt varsity Invitational is set for Saturday, Sept. 13, with home JV meets scheduled for Sept. 2 and Sept. 27.
