  • Our beloved Tanner E. Starkey Flaherty, 17, passed away at his home in Roeland Park on Feb. 12, 2009, due to health issues. He was born Feb. 10, 1992, in Great Bend, the son of John P. Flaherty and Michelle Starkey.

  • Our beloved Tanner E. Starkey Flaherty, 17, passed away at his home in Roeland Park on Feb. 12, 2009, due to health issues. He was born Feb. 10, 1992, in Great Bend, the son of John P. Flaherty and Michelle Starkey.
    Tanner was a junior at Shawnee Mission North, having previously attended schools in Liberty, Mo., and Larned, Kan. Tanner will always be remembered for his ornery smile and his ability to make others laugh. He loved to skateboard, play football and archery. Tanner will be greatly missed but never forgotten. He will remain in our hearts forever.
    Survivors include: father, John P Flaherty, Pratt; mother, Michelle Starkey, of the home; and paternal grandparents, John and Mary Balderston, Beaver, and John and Judy Flaherty, Hays. He had numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.
    He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Hilda Starkey.
    A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, with Pastor Ken Ediger presiding. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.
    A second service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Liberty United Methodist Church, Liberty Mo.
