  • Violet Wanita “Nita” Martin, age 83, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, at South Wind Hospice Home in Pratt. She was born April 22, 1926, in Arcadia, the daughter of Hugh and Edith Cunningham Davis. Mrs. Martin lived in Pratt since 1966 and was previously from Herington. She was a hairdresser and owner of the Town and Country Hair Salon in Pratt.

  • Violet Wanita “Nita” Martin, age 83, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, at South Wind Hospice Home in Pratt. She was born April 22, 1926, in Arcadia, the daughter of Hugh and Edith Cunningham Davis. Mrs. Martin lived in Pratt since 1966 and was previously from Herington. She was a hairdresser and owner of the Town and Country Hair Salon in Pratt.
    On Sept. 19, 1966, she married Gerald O.”Bud” Martin in Council Grove. He preceeded her in death on March 6, 2005.
    She is survived by two daughters, Marcia Dunnegan, Pratt, and Rosemary Bales,Wichita; a son, Phillip Martin, Wheat Ridge, Colo.; her best friend and companion, Dale Mott, Pratt; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her son, Clyde Ward Jr.; brothers, Shirl Davis, George Davis, and Melvin Davis; sisters, Mary Davis, Hazel Cole, Ada Davis, and Alberta Davis; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
    Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Larrison Mortuary with Chaplain Fred Pinkerton presiding. Inurnment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt. There will be no visitation.
