The Pratt Community College baseball team dropped a doubleheader yesterday at Garden City, falling 5-1 in the first game and 14-4 in the second.
PCC had a 1-0 lead in the first game after scoring a run on two hits in the top of the fifth.
Cody Passmore doubled to right field with two outs, and Jacob Hollis singled to left field to score Passmore and get the Beavers on the board.
But Garden City answered with a five-run sixth inning. The Broncbusters took advantage of two wild pitches and two errors plus three hits in the inning.
Pratt loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but couldn’t get anyone across the plate as Garden City held on for the 5-1 win.
Passmore was two-for-three at the plate and scored Pratt’s only run. Hollis had the RBI double to drive him in.
Justin Freer pitched 5 2/3 innings, scattering four hits and four runs while striking out three batters.
In game two, Garden City took a 1-0 lead after one, but the Beavers answered with three runs in the top of the second.
With two outs, Zach Sell walked, then scored on an RBI?double by Matt Burns. Aaron Beil homered to left center to make it 3-1 Pratt with Garden City heading to the plate in the bottom of the second.
The Broncbusters took the lead for good with four runs in the fourth, getting three hits in the process.
Garden added three runs in the fourth, four in the sixth and two in the seventh as they pulled away for the 14-4 win.
Pratt got two doubles, two runs and an RBI from Burns, while Sean McElgunn also had two hits and an RBI.
Beil drove in two runs with his home run.
The Beavers (11-18, 1-15) will host the Bethany College JV in a 4 p.m. doubleheader today at Stanion Field.
