Defense helped the Pratt Community College softball team pick up a pair of wins yesterday as they gave up just two runs in a doubleheader sweep of Hesston at Angood Field in?Lemon?Park.
Pratt won the first game 4-2 and the second 8-0 in five innings.

Game One
Pratt 4, Hesston 2
Hesston took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Pratt got a run back in the bottom of the inning as Charyse Arnold and Ashely Shell got back-to-back base hits to lead off the inning. Arnold came in to score on a fly ball later in the inning, making it 2-1 Hesston after one.
PCC’s defense retired the Larks in order, then the Beaver bats got going in the bottom of the second.
Lety Perez singled to lead the inning off, and with one out, Alyssa Mustard drew a walk. Holly Thielen singled to bring the runners around, and Arnold singled to finish the scoring and put Pratt up 3-2 after two innings.
The Beavers added a run in the bottom of the fourth as Arnold singled and Shell doubled to drive her in and finish the scoring.
Arnold had three hits including a double, while Shell had a double and a single. Perez and Madison Hughes each had one hit in the game.
Alyssa Ramirez got the win as she shut Hesston out in the final six innings.

Game Two
Pratt 8, Hesston 0 (5 innings)
The Beavers pounded out seven hits and scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to cruise past Hesston 8-0 in the second game of the day.
Pratt got a run in the first inning as Arnold led off with a single and came around to score after the next four PCC batters put the ball in play.
That gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead after one inning, and freshman pitcher Hannah Crowe pitched a three-hit shutout to help PCC maintain that lead until the offense found a groove in the fourth inning.
In that fourth inning, Bre Beckerman led off with a single, then Hughes blasted a triple to score Beckerman. Ramirez and Crowe got back-to-back singles, and Holly Thielen also had a single in the inning. Shell and Beckerman both had RBI  doubles before Hesston finally got out of the inning.
Pratt finished with nine hits in the game, getting two each from Beckerman and Ramirez.
Arnold, Crowe, Hughes, Shell and Thielen each had one hit in the game.
PCC (11-17 overall, 6-4 conference) will host Independence in a doubleheader tomorrow at Angood Field in Lemon Park. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
