Cheyenne Becker will be the lone representative from the Pratt High cross-country team at the state meet in Wamego Saturday.

Becker finished second overall, with a time of 15:50 to qualify for a return trip to state.

“Cheyenne has battled through not only tearing her ACL last year in basketball, but also tearing it again this summer and continuing to run with it torn (with Dr.'s permission),” said coach Kathy Hitz. “She will have surgery 4 days after the state meet.”

On the boys side, senior Mario Perez did not finish high enough to return to state. He finished in 29th place with a time of 18:39.

“The boys had a tough day,” Hitz said. “It was a deep field and we ran average and that just is not going to do it at Regionals. The good thing is we will return all but one for next year and I think this is going to leave them hungry and knowing what they need to run to qualify next year.”
