A Wichita man has been sentenced to five years in  federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of arson in a Pratt apartment fire on Aug. 18, 2009, said U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom.


A Wichita man has been sentenced to five years in  federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of arson in a Pratt apartment fire on Aug. 18, 2009, said U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom.

Mario Petardi, 28 of Wichita, was sentenced Wednesday, Oct. 17. During his plea he admitted he started a fire in the northwest bedroom of an apartment building at 416 South Ninnescah in Pratt.

U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Marten ordered Petardi to pay $12,600 in restitution for fire damage.

Five residents, including some children, were in other apartments in the building when Petardi started the fire but all were able to get out without any injuries.

Petardi was arrested Aug. 26, 2009 in Gray County after turning himself into law enforcement. Petardi’s mother lives in Cimarron in Gray County.
