A grass fire caused very minor damage to Pratt Monument Company Monday afternoon.

Chuck Kirk, an employee with Pratt Monument Company, saw an unidentified Hispanic male walking through the back lot of the business smoking a cigarette and throwing it on the ground causing the fire, said Pratt Fire Department Chief David Kramer who spoke with Kirk after the fire.

Wind quickly pushed the fire through the tall grass from the back of the store along the east side to the front setting fire to a cedar tree next to the building.

“The fire burned into the soffit but didn’t get into the building,” Kramer said.

The fire burned the Monument Company front lawn and consumed an evergreen bush. It also burned grass around the former Township 12 building but did no damage to that building, Kramer explained.
