The Township 8 Fire Department in Byers has received a $2,500 donation from Bob Moore. Moore won the $2,500 in the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program that gives farmers the opportunity to win the money for their favorite local nonprofit organization. Funding for the program comes through Monsanto and the Monsanto Fund.

Presenting the check Tuesday at the Byers Fire Department was Lance Embree, Territory Manager for Dekalb, representing Monsanto that works closely with Dekalb.

The Monsanto Fund will eventually invest more than $3 million in local communities through farmer donations. It is Monsanto’s thanks for all their customer support.

“Farmers spend a lot of money with our company,” Embree said. “It’s our way of giving back to the farmer.”

Moore said he chose the Byers Fire Department because the group needs the funding and the community it serves needs the fire protection.

Fire Chief Aaron Stimatze said the funds would be used for equipment and safety gear.

This is the second time Moore has won this award. In 2010 he donated the $2,500 to Skyline USD 438.
