Leland A. Flint passed away peacefully at home in Riverside, Calif., with his family at his bedside on the morning of March 22, 2011. He was born in Englewood, Kan., on Nov. 18, 1920.

He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 60 years, Orpha, and his sister Virginia Bone.

Leland is survived by his brother Roger and daughters Lynne Zizzo (Frank), Leslie Cunningham (Bill) and Ginger Durall (Curt). He is also survived by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Leland served in World War II as an airplane mechanic and then as a B-24 pilot in the south Pacific. After the war he returned to Pratt, joined his father at Flint Sales & Service and joined the Air Force Reserves from which he retired after more than 20 years.

In Pratt he was a member of several city councils, served three terms as mayor and was on the Pratt Community College Board of Trustees for many years. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities over the years.

While in Riverside he joined Wesley UMC. He was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the B.P.O.E. One of the roles of which he was most proud was his involvement as a member of the board of Arrowhead West.

He loved to work with wood, making many pieces of beautiful furniture for his wife and daughters. He also loved to fish.

For as long as they were able, Leland and Orpha, along with and other family members, took wonderful trips exploring the United States and abroad. They often went to Elder Hostels and very much enjoyed the experiences.

For many years he and Orpha had a cabin at Elm Mills where the extended family was welcomed with open arms.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on June 4 at Pratt United Methodist Church.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Pratt United Methodist Church.
