KSHSAA has officially released the state baseball and softball tournament brackets for Memorial Day weekend, and Pratt fared well, earning the No. 2 seed in baseball and the No. 3 seed in softball.

Scheduling issues became a problem with more than just Pratt sending both teams to the tournament. KSHSAA did their best to prevent a school’s two teams from playing at the same time.

For Pratt fans trying to catch all the games over Memorial Day weekend, they can start on Friday with the baseball team’s matchup against Maize South at 4 p.m. Following that game, they can catch the softball team in action at 7 p.m. against Paola.

Should both teams advance to Saturday’s semifinals, the softball girls would get things started with a 10 a.m. game against the winner of Clay Center and Andale.  Win or lose, the Lady Greenbacks would be playing for a championship or third place during the semifinal of the baseball team, which would face the winner of Topeka Hayden and St. James Academy at 12:30 p.m.

The baseball final is set for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday should the Greenbacks advance that far.

The boys will play on the same field all weekend, while the softball girls have two at their disposal, meaning they’ll get done earlier on Saturday and can start much later on Friday.

As far as the draw is concerned, both teams have their chance to advance through the bracket. The baseball team’s draw of Maize South isn’t a bad one. However, their record isn’t necessarily indicative of their abilities.

On the girls side, Pratt’s draw of Paola in the first round isn’t an easy one. But all but one of the teams in softball has a solid winning record, and with Brittnee Hill on the mound, they have the opportunity to beat anyone. A semifinal matchup with Andale will be tough should they advance.

More information on a possible sendoff for both teams on Friday has yet to be announced by Pratt athletic director Curtis Nightingale. Check the Tribune Web site for more information as it becomes available.
