Edwin J. Wiltse, General Manager of Ninnescah Electric Cooperative, Inc., Pratt, Kansas, has been named the Small Business Administration Wichita District Office Financial Services Champion.  He will be honored at a reception on Thursday, May 26, 10:30 a.m., at Ninnescah Electric Cooperative, Inc., 20112 W. Highway 54, Pratt, Kansas.   The public and local media are invited.

Edwin Wiltse is one of the most active supporters of small business communities in Western Kansas.  Through his regular business duties, volunteering in the community and various business organizations, Mr. Wiltse has been active in helping small businesses to obtain funding.

Since January, 2010,  Mr. Wiltse has been General Manager of Ninnescah Electric Cooperative, Inc., Pratt, Kansas.  He was a former manager of member services for Pioneer Electric, Ulysses, Kansas.  He has been a constant advocate for changes in the financial services industry in supporting and assisting small businesses in the region.  He has promoted and is directly involved in financial programs that assist them.  Mr. Wiltse was instrumental in convincing Pioneer to also offer loans to promote the economy of the rural area it serves.  He was also on the review board for Pioneer Electric’s revolving loan fund that provided low interest loans for business development in the region.

One of his objectives was to bring the same types of funding products and services to the Ninnescah Cooperative that he developed at Pioneer Electric.  It proves he truly understands the niche that small business loan funds serve in rural areas.  In his new position, he is making an extraordinary effort to meet with local financial and community organizations to determine how Ninnescah can play an integral role in promoting small businesses in the service area.  He works closely with the Great Plains Development, Inc., to make the many SBA and other loan products available.  He also worked with local developers and investors to help inject capital into small business ventures.

As a volunteer member of the Western Kansas Rural Economic Development Alliance (wKREDA) he has supported and promoted its purpose, which is to develop business relationships to help sustain economic growth through business and job retention in 53 counties in Western Kansas.

Mr. Wiltse offered significant business assistance in promoting partnerships with local bankers and the Great Plains Development Company in the region.  In working with customers, he also created liaisons with local economic development, city, and county officials.  Oftentimes, he was the direct contact person for the small business and spent many hours in the field working with them.

He served on the Ulysses City Council for 12 years and as mayor for four years.  He served as the city council representative to the Grant County Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Directors for the Western Prairie Care Home and the Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Wiltse’s background and willingness to promote these programs and help grow small business provides a tremendous asset to the area.    He embodies the growing spirit of rural small businesses in southwestern Kansas.  His profile reflects the years of service in helping the Southwest Kansas promote, grow, and finance small businesses.
