Twenty Pratt High School cheerleaders recently attended summer cheer camp at Bethany College, Lindsborg. They returned with fond memories and collections of hardware acknowledging the awards they won while in attendance.

It was a successful camp, from the perspective of PHS cheer coach Susan Pixler. “I took two squads,” she explained. “Our rookies made up one group and our veterans were in the other group. The girls all learned a number of new dances and cheers.”

According to Pixler, the inexperienced girls improved throughout the week, and were presented with Superior ribbons at the end of camp for their efforts.

The veteran squad shined throughout the camp, piling up the accolades as they went. They received a Superior Trophy and were named Camp Champs in the Xtreme Dance competition.

They also came home with the coveted and prestigious ‘Banana’. According to Pixler, “This is an award given to the squad at camp with the most spirit and skills. The girls were probably proudest of this award.”

Four Greenbacks were presented with individual All-American awards in addition to the awards the squads received. Girls are named All-Americans by camp staff on the basis of individual try-outs. The girls show off their jumps, cheer skills and dance skills for the judges. Seniors Alexus Bishop, Connor Reh, Stormy Flemming and sophomore Christina Fernandez were selected as All-Americans this year by the panel.

Judging by their outstanding performances at summer camp, it would appear the 2012-13 cheer squad is set to carry on the tradition of excellence at Pratt High.
