  • Gloria Scrogin Royer, 88, passed away on July 7, 2012, in Greeley, Colo. Gloria was born on Feb. 14, 1924, to Leland and Nina (Owens) Scrogin in Pratt. She was the youngest of six children living in a home filled with music and laughter.
Gloria graduated high school in 1942 and moved to Greeley to start her college life. Her parents also moved at that time to Manitou Springs, Colo. She graduated from Colorado State College (UNC) in 1946 with degrees in elementary education and music. She spent the next three years teaching fifth and sixth graders; one year in Denver and the next two at Cameron Elementary in Greeley. Her future husband, all her sons, and one grandson attended Cameron.
Gloria would tell you that the best part of her life began when she met Dave Royer. They married in August 1949 and built a house on Montview Road in Greeley. Dave died in 1986 after a lengthy illness. Their journey together was always about raising their four sons, loving each other, laughing together, and following their dreams.
Gloria was involved in many organizations. She joined the PEO 63 years ago in 1949. She was a den mother for Cub Scouts, visited shut-ins, and volunteered for numerous school, church, and civic functions. Gloria deeply loved the First Congregational Church where she sang in the choir.
She was a wonderful cook and baker. At the holidays, her home was filled with rolls and cookies that her loving and devoted son, Scott, would deliver across town to her many friends. Gloria especially loved her roses that she tended to with great care.
She gave of herself tirelessly to friends and strangers alike. But, to Gloria, it was all about family. She loved her husband with all of her heart. She cherished her sons and their wives. She lived for her special relationship with her grandsons, and was just getting ready to spoil her great grandchildren. Her family will miss her greatly.
Gloria is survived by her four sons, Steve (Dianne) Royer of Sandy, Utah, Tom (Kirtley) Royer, John (Pinky) Royer, and Scott Royer all of Greeley; four grandchildren, Daniel (Kimme) Royer, Chris (Regan) Royer, Andrew Royer, and Tiffany Royer; two great grandchildren, Ava and Theo; and a sister, Mary Helen Scrogin Wade.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and two sisters, and very special family friend Elizabeth Lehr.
Interment at Linn Grove Cemetery, 1:30 p.m.,Thursday, July 12. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Congregational Church with a reception to immediately follow the church service.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO 80631. Friends may view the online obituary, sign the guest book and send condolences at www.allnutt.com
