  • Verlyn R. “Bud” Fisher, 87, died July 18, 2012, at Good Samaritan Center in Hays. He was born May 22, 1925, at McPherson to Harold and Dorothy Fisher.

  • Verlyn R. “Bud” Fisher, 87, died July 18, 2012, at Good Samaritan Center in Hays. He was born May 22, 1925, at McPherson to Harold and Dorothy Fisher.
    Bud attended McPherson schools and graduated from McPherson College. He was an industrial arts teacher and coach. He taught in Chase from 1949 to 1962, Lakin 1962 to 1981 and moved to Red River, N.M., in 1981. He moved to Hays in 2010.
    He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking projects, bus sight-seeing tours, cheering the KU Jayhawks and traveling all over the state attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.
    He married Betty Lou Jamison Aug. 24, 1947, at Quinter. She died May 31, 2010.
    Survivors include: a daughter, Sandra and Wesley Oakley, Hays; son, Barry and Stacey Fisher, Pratt; 12 grandchildren, Melanie Petz, Melissa Oakley, Jamie Fisher, Molly Smith, Lindsey McCray, Cody Fisher, Christin Nunnery, Seth Oakley, Brett Reynolds-Fisher, Brooke Fisher, Samuel Fisher and Stephen Fisher; and 25 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Randy Fisher and brother, DeWayne Fisher.
    Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesleyan Church in Lakin, with Pastor Wes Oakley officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin.
