  • Things couldn't have gone much better for the Skyline Thunderbirds in their initial outing of the 2012 campaign.
Traveling to South Barber on Saturday for the South Barber Quad, the Lady T-Birds dispatched each of their three opponents with out dropping a set.
Skyline began their day by downing Stafford 25-17 and 25-8. They next handled Attica 25-9 and 25-21.
Rounding out a successful day, the Thunderbirds put away the host South Barber Lady Chieftains by counts of 25-19 and 25-7.
Skyline head coach Summer Younie was pleased with her charges' performance. "We had some really good play from the girls," she noted.
Kaitlyn Stark and Taylor DeWeese controlled the middle well for Skyline, hitting and blocking effectively.
According to Younie, "Harley Weaver did a great job on defense and Morgan Flowers played well both offensively and defensively."
Younie felt that the T-Birds received serve well and did a nice job keeping control of the ball.
Some things the Skyliners need to work on are becoming more consistent on the timing for their hitting and setting.
Coach Younie was confident the Thunderbirds will be able to improve onthe areas of concern.
"Many of the things we need to work on will come with more playing experience," she predicted. "I thought that for the first day out, we did a great job."
It would certainly be difficult to argue with that assessment. Certainly the other three teams attending the South Barber Quad had no doubt who the best team in the gym on that day was.
Skyline begins the season 3-0. They host a tournament next Saturday.
