Pratt chorus has highest percentage of new members.
With 23 members, the Pratt Chorus of Sweet Adelines is a small group, but they're eight more than a year ago. The chorus recently received a $1,000 award from Midwest Plains Region 7 Sweet Adelines International for achieving the largest percentage of membership growth.
The Pratt Chorus had its beginnings in 1994 with Judy Alterman as director, and received its charter in January 1996. Kyra Dauner has been the director since that time.
Her mother, the late Carol Dauner, and aunt, current member Charlotte Swonger were in the original Pratt Chorus in the 1950s. Kyra attended rehearsals at the age of three, and apparently showed her directing skills even then, according to a chorus profile in a Region 7 newsletter.
The chorus delivers Singing Valentines and performs at community events and fund-raisers, at area nursing homes and in Sweet Adeline competitions. They sing a variety of songs, but always in un-accompanied four-part harmony.
A membership drive is being planned for October, in advance of holiday performances.
