Elsie Veatch Spangler, age 99, of WaKeeney, died Aug. 31, 2012.
Elsie was born Nov. 23, 1912, in Lost Springs, the daughter of August and Clara (Hartke) Engel. She was baptized Elsa Anna Emma Engel, Dec. 1912, and confirmed in 1926 at St. John's Lutheran in Lincolnville.
Elsie married Harold Veatch March 18, 1939. He preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1948. After raising four children, she married Gaylord Spangler on June 11, 1967. He preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1987.
Elsie was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters, one grandchild, Cliff Veatch, and one great-grandchild, Ryan Beavers.
Elsie is survived by her sons, Steve Veatch of Cedar Falls Iowa, Chuck Veatch and wife Fran of Manhattan; daughters, Leatha and husband Charlie Beavers of Olathe; Cindy and husband Gale Scanlon of WaKeeney, Joan (Spangler) Daniels and husband Ray of Kansas City, and Janet (Spangler) Rees and husband Jeffrey of West Liberty, Iowa. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 35 great -grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. John cemetery. A family-hosted memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 6 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 255 S. 7th, Salina.
Memorial contributions may be given to the hospice of your choice.
