  • Ibarra captures 9/10 race for T-Birds

  • The Skyline Thunderbirds cross country team opened their season Saturday participating in the Hays TMP Invitational.
    Highlights included Roman Ibarra winning the 9/10 boys race (18:32) and Brooke Fisher taking 3rd in the 11/12girls race (17:18.)

  • The Skyline Thunderbirds cross country team opened their season Saturday participating in the Hays TMP Invitational.
    Highlights included Roman Ibarra winning the 9/10 boys race (18:32) and Brooke Fisher taking 3rd in the 11/12girls race (17:18.)
    There were 7 schools present. Skyline's girls finished 3rd with 47 points behind Ness City (16) and host TMP (26.)
    The boys were 5th with 71. Hutch Trinity captured the boys team title with 19.
    In the 9/10 girls race, Miranda Ghumm took 12th (23:38.)
    All of the T-Bird boys ran in the 9/10 boys race, attesting to the squad's youth. Besides Ibarra, there was Benja Schlingensiepen (15, 22:13); Colin Kumberg (17, 22:47), Khaleb Cason(18, 22:48) and Lucas Carson (20, 23:08.)
    7 Lady T-Birds joined Fisher in the 11/12 girls event: Megan Pyles (7, 17:43); Katelyn Kumberg (12, 19:15); Madison Moore (14, 19:18); Patty Ibarra (17, 19:27); Allison Sanders (18, 19:31); Abby Giles (21, 19:53); Ascha Lee (24, 20:56.)
    Skyline Head Coach Lynnette Freeman said, "I thought we did great for our first meet. We have so many kids who are freshmen or are new to the sport that this was many of them's first cross country experience. It should be a good year."
