  • Thelma Frances Shaffer Hall, 86, of Pratt, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Pratt Regional Medical Center in Pratt.
    Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Pratt, with Pastor Stan Hendershot presiding. Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, following services at the church. Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
    She was born April 7, 1926, to William B. and Josephine Mock Shaffer at the family home in Pratt. She grew up in the Pratt community and graduated from Pratt High School.
    She married Richard G. Hall on Feb. 17, 1946. He died Sept. 13, 2001.
    She graduated from cosmetology school at Great Bend and was a hairdresser for 25 years. She enjoyed performing and competing as a member of Sweet Adelines for several years. She was a cancer survivor and took pride in participating in the Relay for Life cancer walk for several years. Later in life, she found special pleasure spending time with her best friend and companion of eight years, Clifford Epley. They enjoyed making day trips to surrounding areas, as well as taking some vacations to an Epley family cabin in Colorado.
    Survivors include: two daughters, Janie M. Kessler and husband Ronnie, Pratt, and Peggy L. Coverdale and husband Wm. Alan, Topeka; five grandchildren, Brian Kessler and wife Robin, Overland Park, Brandon Kessler and wife Angela, Wichita, Bradford Kessler, Brooklyn, N.Y., Alicia Coverdale, Hays, and Anna Stone, Louisburg; and eight great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Rick; two brothers, Billy Joe Shaffer and Cecil Shaffer; and four sisters, Verna Adams, Imogene White, Alta Goodman and Irma Mohr.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the Relay for Life cancer walk or the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, both in care of Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary, 115 E. Fourth, Pratt, KS 67124.
