  • Skyline head volleyball coach Summer Younie had this date circled on her calendar back in the preseason.
Expecting the Norwich Eagles to be one the best teams in the HOPL, Younie knew this game would be a good test of her team's progress.
On senior night at the Thunderdome, the Lady T-Birds proved they are a force to be reckoned with by shellacking the dazed Lady Eagles 25-16 and 25-12.
In between games, seniors Morgan Flowers, Shannon Neifert, Ashley Koirth and Harley Weaver were honored along with their parents.
Then, in what was almost an afterthought, the Skyliners dispatched outmanned Medicine Lodge, sending them home nursing the wounds from a 25-17, 25-10 whipping.
Coach Younie was understandably pleased with her team's performance. "I can't put into words how happy I am with the way our girls played (Tuesday) night.," she expressed.
Playing without defensive specialist Harley Weaver, who had her appendix taken out last week, other Lady Thunderbirds stepped up.
"I was worried how Shelby Bender and Alyssa Swonger would do against a faster paced team," Younie mentioned, "but they did a great job of passing the ball."
Morgan Flowers celebrated senior night by giving an inspired performance. "Morgan was amazing last night," Younie allowed. "Sometimes she gets intimidated when there is a double block across from her, but (Tuesday) night she dominated."
Flowers also contributed defensively. "She made some crazy defensive plays," Younie reflected, "Getting to and digging up balls that I didn't think anyone had a chance at."
Taylor DeWeese had a great match against Norwich, scoring 5 kills and a block. "She played very aggressively and with high energy," Younie mentioned."She is developing into a great middle."
Younie felt the Lady Eagles were surprised at the ferocity of the T-Birds game. "We came out aggressive and never let down," she said.
The Lady Eagles appeared to have had the fight taken out of them by Skyline in game 2.
It was a great night for the Skyline volleyball team, celebrating senior night with a pair of wins, one over nemesis Norwich.
The Skyliners will be in the road for the balance of the season, going to Attica next Tuesday for league matches against Attica and Cunningham.
