  • The Skyline Thunderbirds volleyball team had a little bit of a disappointing outing Saturday at the Kiowa County Invitational tournament.
They began pool play with a 21-25; 21-25 defeat at the hands of Bucklin, a team the T-Birds should have beaten according to Skyline head coach Summer Younie.
They then lost a hard-fought 25-21; 13-25; 23-25 match to eventual tourney champ Hutch Trinity. Skyline was the only team to win a set from Trinity on the day.
“Against Trinity we played well,” Younie allowed. “Our defense was there and we played more aggressive on offense.”
The T-Birds dispatched South Gray 25-17; 25-21 to complete pool play at 1-2, which was not enough to get them into bracket play and so the day ended for Skyline at that point.
As the only team to seriously contest Trinity, the Skyliners had to have felt they were one of the better teams in the tournament, but their loss to Bucklin prevented them from advancing to bracket play, hence the disappointment.
