The Lady Beaver soccer team defeated Allen county 2-0 on Sophomore Appreciation Night. The team came out sharp and put immediate pressure on the Red Devil defense which lead to a Beaver penalty kick awarded in the 3rd minute.
Lauren Randall left no doubt as she punched it into the back of the net for the opening score. The rest of the 1st half was not without excitement, as Pratt maintained possession for the majority of the clock.
In the closing minutes of the half the Beaver defense committed a costly foul and Allen was awarded a penalty shot. Meridith Mckee was equal to the task; saving the shot over the post. The subsequent corner kick proved to be problematic for Pratt as an Allen player was able to redirect the corner kick on goal only to have Mckee come up with the diving save to push it wide past the post.
In the 81st minute, Holly Harrod got on the end of a beautifully placed corner from Gemma Whitehead to head it past the keeper for the final 2 nil score. This win moves the Lady Beavers to 3-4 in conference, currently sitting in eighth place of a 14 teams.
"This is the kind of match we owed to our family and fans," said Schicke. "The girls were brilliant and I couldn't be happier with the team."
The Lady Beavers next face a three game stand of travel to North East Oklahoma College, Coffeyville Community College, and Garden City Community College. They return home Oct. 10 at 2:30 p.m. to face the Barton County Cougars.
The Pratt Community College men's soccer team also faced off against Allen County with not as good results.
The score of the men's game was also 2-0, but in the nightcap the game went the Red Devils' way.
The Beavers are now 1-4 in the Jayhawk and 4-5 overall.
Upcoming, they will join the Lady Beavers in the doubleheader on the road against North East Oklahoma on Saturday.
