  • Geneva Toland Hicken, age 91, passed away on Sept. 11, 2012, in Santa Barbara, Calif.
    She was born in Iuka, on Jan. 29, 1929. Geneva grew up and attended school in Pratt, then earned a teaching degree from Kansas State Teacher's College of Emporia in Emporia in 1942.
    She moved to California where she taught school and married Charles Waynick on Nov. 20, 1948. They moved to Denver in 1957 and lived for many years in the Columbine Country Club in Littleton, Colo., where they remained until his death in 1993. She was a committed golfer who served as a committee chair of the 49th PGA Championship that was held at Columbine in 1967.
    Geneva married Daniel Hicken in 1995 and lived in Santa Barbara until her death. They loved to travel and enjoyed living in Montecito on the ocean.
    She had endless amounts of jokes to share, loved to entertain and had a great sense of adventure. She loved to fish.
    She loved her family and friends beyond words.
    A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Chapel in the Pines, with a graveside service to follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Denver, Colo., where she will be buried with Charlie.
    A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 22 at first United Methodist Church of Santa Barbara.
    In lieu of Flowers the family is requesting donations the American Cancer Society in her name.
