  • Skyline High School is putting a twist on homecoming. The traditional one-hour assembly for king and queen has been changed.
Skyline School's homecoming assembly will start at 3 p.m. on Friday. It will begin with the introduction of the candidates. The king and queen will be announced before the football game at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 12. In the past, the crowning took place during the afternoon assembly.
"It's going to be really cool doing everything different than years past and changing it up. It's going to be fun creating the class floats," junior Taylor Tobin said.
The attendants are freshmen Roman Ibarra and Alyssa Allphin, sophomores Gunner DeClue and Tiffany Timm and juniors Taylor Tobin and Ethan Ailstock. The senior king candidates are Brandon Baird, Sam Howell and Tony Marquez. The senior queen candidates are Alexa Hoss, Morgan Flowers and Shannon Neifert.
The theme for homecoming is "Super Mario."
"The theme for homecoming is different. It's a challenge to come up with a float for it. I'm excited to walk with Tiffany," DeClue said.
All high school students will start Friday morning decorating a class float from 8:05 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. They will work with their classmates to make the float. Floats will be displayed for a public vote at the the football game. The winning float from that night's vote will be announced at halftime.
The students from Pep Club can audition for skits Tuesday. Anybody can pick out the skit they want to do and audition for it. The winners will get to perform the skit for the assembly.
The cheerleaders will perform with the Cheer Clinic participants at the end of the assembly. Girls from kindergarten through sixth grade will be at Skyline today from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The cheerleaders will teach the fundamentals of being a cheerleader. They will learn a cheer, a sideline and a short dance to the song "What Makes You Beautiful." Their performances will be at the homecoming pep assembly and at halftime of the homecoming football game.
Jenessa Corbet is a sophomore at Skyline School.
