The Pratt Community College Lady Beavers traveled to Garden City Saturday for conference match against Garden City while the men went the other direction to take on Hesston.
Both squads came away with wins, the women posting a 1-0 victory while the men prevailed 3-1.
With the rain falling and the temperatures in the low 30’s, Pratt dominated play at Garden City. Many goal scoring chances were squandered as the Broncbusters were able to hang on in a scoreless 1st half.
Early in the second half, Lauren Randall chipped a free kick over the outstretched arms of the Garden City goalkeeper to provide the game’s only goal.
Donna Nickolay was able to record her 4th clean sheet of the season.
Head coach Jerrid Schicke was pleased with the outcome if not the performance of his Lady Beavers.
“Although we did not play well today, it was good to see the team work together to preserve the clean sheet. If we play to our potential, we could earn our way into the top seven spots and finish this year with a playoff run,” Schicke said.
This win puts Pratt back in a tie for 8th place with 4 conference games remaining.
The PCC women are now 4-10 on the year (4-5 in the Jayhawk West.)
The Beaver men’s soccer team travelled to play Hesston in a non conference game on Saturday .
On a cold and windy night, the Beavers took control from the outset and went close on several occasions .
Finally Dom Swindler gave the Beavers the 1-0 lead with a great header on a cross from Gordy MacNab .
Nik Bohne scored a second goal , to put the Beavers 2-0 ahead with just minutes left in the 1 st half .
However after some sloppy defense from PCC, Hesston pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 going into the half time break.
The second half was more of the same with the Beavers in control , and soon after the break Gordy MacNab slotted home a penalty kick after Braulio Morales was fouled in the penalty area to give the Beavers a 3-1 lead.
With the Beavers in complete control , Dillon Eichelberger and Luis Soto were given some time in the nets. Also Nick Willis played his first minutes of the season.
This 3-1 victory leaves the Beavers at 7-5 on the season (2-4 conference.)
Both the men’s and women’s teams return to action at home against Barton County on Wednesday. Barton County’s men are nationally ranked.
Gametimes are 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. at the Beaver Dam soccer pitch.
