  • Youth For Christ ministers to junior high and senior high youth, throughout our local communities. We strive to spread God's word and build strong relationships with kids, walking beside them through both the good and difficult situations of life.
The Pratt Area Youth For Christ will hold the 10th annual pig roast fundraiser from 11:30 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Municipal Building in Pratt. This fundraiser is exclusively for the Pratt area YFC and provides most of its funding for the year.
The menu includes hand pulled, slow-smoked pork, baked beans, coleslaw, rolls, a variety of cake, coffee, tea, and water.
"I always look forward to this meal," said Joel Williamson, executive director. "Dennis Mohler seasons and slow smokes the pork that is hand pulled by volunteers, including Pratt youth and Barclay College students who assist in leadership positions. The food is great and we really have a good time working together as family and friends."
In addition to the pork, the fellowship between and among people from various churches in town, promotes a healthy foundation for Christian unity as we all work toward the same goal.
The Pratt ministry is going very well. We have an average of 50 kids a week attending the program. Since the 5th grade has moved to Liberty Middle School, we now minister to 5th and 6th grade as well.
YFC activities include weekly clubs, attending area concerts, conferences and hosting other events for children. Most of the kids have never belonged to or regularly attended church. YFC forms a bridge for those youth to learn more about God's plan for their lives so they can better understand who God is. They also encourage youth to belong to a church when they are ready to do so.
Campus Life clubs, the name of our weekly ministry, offers high energy, fun-filled evenings for 5th through 12th grade level students. The Pratt Area YFC meets in a basement room under the former Sears/Bodies' Elite building. We call our room, "The Hole," due to the fact that it has no windows and has gigantic sliding metal doors. Fifth and 6th graders meet Tuesday nights, 3:45 – 4:45. Seventh and 8th graders meet from 6:00 – 7:00, and 9th – 12th grade meet from 7:00 – 8:30.
Each summer, YFC takes many students, primarily from Pratt and Kiowa County, to the mountains for camp ministry experiences away from home. Scholarships are available for students who need financial help to attend camps. The YFC gets strong support from Pratt.
