  • In a Senior Night triangular, the Pratt High School volleyball team beat Sterling 2-0 and lost to Hesston 0-2.
Game #1 against Hesston was a hard-fought affair, ultimately ending in a 24-26 sudden death victory for the Swathers.
Early on, Jenson Maydew and Stonie Flemming spikes allowed the Lady Greenbacks to keep pace with Hesston. The score was knotted at 15 and then again at 19.
Swather service errors aided the Greenback cause, preventing Hesston from gaining any steady momentum. Finally, though, Hesston was able to pull out the 24-26 win.
Game #2 against Hesston was all Swathers. “We were really out of rhythm against Hesston,” Greenback head coach Dean Rausch explained. Pratt dropped game #2 13-25, and thus the match 2-0.
The defeat halted Pratt’s match winning streak at 13.
The Lady Greenbacks righted the ship in the nightcap against Sterling. It was the third match-up of the season between the two squads, each team having won one of the previous meetings. The Greenbacks won the rubber match in solid fashion.
In game #1 Pratt raced out to a 4-0 lead on kills by Amy Olson and Maydew.
In the middle part of the game, strong serving by Hayden Pixler and Jaci Kolm allowed the Lady Greenbacks to extend their lead to 16-8.
Sterling closed the gap a little, but then Maydew closed the door on the Black Bears with a spike, giving Pratt the 25-20 win.
In game #2, Pratt got out to an 8-4 lead, then basically maintained that margin for the rest of the game, taking a 25-21 win, and the match 2-0.
Stonie Flemming, Whitney Tilley and Jaci Kolm joined the hit parade in game 2, each recording kills.
“We played a more recognizable brand of Greenback volleyball against Sterling,” Coach Rausch observed. “We did a lot better job of passing and setting up our hitters.”
Seniors honored at Senior Night included Andi Gripe, Hayden Pixler, Emily Hook, Whitney Tilley and mgr. Corbyn Crump.
The Greenbacks are now 23-6 for the year. The volleyballers season continues Saturday with a tournament at Goddard, 8 a.m.
