Harriet Rumford, 83, Emporia, and formerly of Americus, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City.

Harriet Gould was born in Pratt on April 26, 1929, the daughter of Harry and Sibyl Greene Gould. She married Albert Jay Rumford on March 30, 1953 in Kingman. He died Sept. 30, 1981.

Surviving family members include five daughters, Cherri Byington, Emporia, Rita McCorkle, Manhattan, Judy McNabb, Tucson, Ariz., Sara Gardner, Emporia, and Mary Clements, Americus; two sons, Larry Gene Gould and Robert Dean Rumford, both of Wichita; 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Allen Atherton; two daughters, Patty Parks, and Brenda Rumford, who died in infancy. Two brothers and five sisters also died earlier.

Mrs. Rumford was a member of the Church of Christ in Emporia. While living in Americus, she was a volunteer at the Americus Senior Center. She moved from Americus to Emporia this past spring.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Church of Christ in Emporia. The service will be conducted by Mr. Neil Taylor, of the church. Interment will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery, west of Emporia. The family will greet friends one hour before the service.

A memorial has been established to the Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Association, with contributions sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State Street, Emporia, KS 66801.
