  • Dr. Philip J. Finley, who lived in Pratt from birth to 10 years of age, will be at the Pratt Public Library from 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 20 to sign his newest book, "Confirmation From My Father." A free book will be presented to the first 10 attendees.
Copies will be available, or may be reserved by calling Dr. Shirle Ibeawuchi at 620-672-5145.
Amazon.com describes the book as follows: "Confirmation From My Father" is a book exemplifying three key needs in our lives; faith, patience, and hope. The book will give individuals the confidence they need to open up their hearts and move forward in a growing relationship with their creator and the Lord Jesus Christ. Confirmation From My Father is all about establishing and trusting in relationships; not only with our savior but with our friends and family.
Finley's father, Travis Finley, is the inspiration for the book, as well as for "Rebounding for Christ." Finley is also the author of "Growing Up Pratt," about his experiences as a black youngster in a mostly-white town.
He earned a doctorate in health science from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and is a public health advisor for the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Ga.
He is also an avid runner, having just completed the 190-mile Ragnar Relay in California.
