  • Annabel I. Westerhaus, 94, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at South Wind Hospice Home in Pratt. She was born Jan. 11, 1918, on the family farm near Coffeyville to Orrin and Irma Leslie Ellison.
    She attended elementary school in rural Montgomery County and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School, Coffeyville, in 1936 and from Coffeyville Jr. College in 1939. She earned a bachelor's degree in home economics from Pittsburg State Teacher's College, Pittsburg, in 1941. She taught home economics classes in Florence from 1941-1946.
    On Aug. 28, 1945 she married Edward J. Westerhaus in Holy Name Catholic Church, Coffeyville. They lived in Gypsum, where Edward taught business classes and coached in the high school from 1946-1951. In 1951 he went to work for General Adjustment Bureau and was assigned to the office in Parsons. Edward was transferred to Pratt in 1961 as manager of the Pratt office where they lived until he retired in 1982.
    Annabel was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, former member of the Daughters of Isabella and Legion of Mary in Parsons, and Green Thumb Garden Club, Pratt. She and Edward delivered Meals on Wheels for several years during his retirement. She loved her family, home, friends, church and enjoyed working with flowers and in her yard.
    She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 65 years, Edward; great-grandson, Bryce Mosier; parents, Orrin and Irma Ellison; brothers, Leslie and Kenneth Ellison; sisters, Ruth Jabben, and Alleyne Ellison; two brothers-in-law, Edwin and Bernard Westerhaus; and two sisters-in-law, Emma Ellison and Bernadine Westerhaus.
    She is survived by four sons, Michael (Rhonda), Pratt, Stephen (Rochelle), Pratt, Gregory (Merrily), Andover, and Kevin (Cathy), Pratt; a daughter, Rita (Mark) DeBusk, Wichita; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Keith Ellison, Caney, and Dale (Doris) Ellison, Overland Park; one sister, Reba (George) Miller, Lakeland, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Westerhaus, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Roberta Ellison, Dearing.
    Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Larrison Mortuary 300 Country Club Rd., Pratt. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pratt, with the Rev. Floyd McKinney officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery. Pratt.
