Lonnie D. Garten, 77, of Medicine Lodge, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital. He was born on Feb. 3, 1935, in rural Barber County, southwest of Medicine Lodge.
A lifetime resident of Barber County, he was a rancher. He was a member of the Cowboy Story Tellers, AQHA, and the Sun City Ropin' Club.
On June 20, 1953 he married Otie Hamilton at Medicine Lodge. She preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2010.
Survivors include two sons, Troy Garten of Lake City, and Clayton Garten of Wichita; two daughters, Amber Cline and Anita (Bobby) Crater, all of Medicine Lodge; a brother, Fred Garten, Rago; seven grandchildren, Jayme McDonald, Keri Cline, Shelley Pettit, Ashley Baldwin, Caitlin Garten, Layne Garten and Crystal Moore, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, grandson Davy Cline, and great-grandson Gunner Baldwin.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Sun City Community Room, Sun City, with Pastor Tom Walters officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Sun City.
