Right now is one of those times of years that it seems like new beers are hitting the shelves almost every day.
Here’s a look at a few that look worth trying.
First up is Boulevard Brewing Company’s 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer.
The 80-Acre is the newest year-round beer in the Heritage lineup. It was originally only going to be available in the Midwest. However, because Massachusetts has made Boulevard extremely popular locally, they decided to release the 80-Acre beer here.
Boulevard said they do not plan on releasing the beer in any other east coast state in the near future.
The beer is described as a hybrid between a wheat beer and IPA. The beer itself is 5.5 percent ABV, and has 20 IBUs. I have a few bottles and I’ll let you know what I think. I’ve been impressed by nearly every Boulevard beer so far, so I’m looking forward to it.
Magic Hat Brewing Company has added a new beer to its Winterland Variety Pack – Wooly.
Wooly is an ESB brewed made with spruce; it is 4.5 percent ABV with 40 IBUs. I’m looking forward to trying it.
The other beers in the Winterland Variety Pack are the #9, the Heart of Darkness (a stout that I think is Magic Hat’s best beer) and Encore, a wheat IPA.
This non-traditional saison uses oak-smoked wheat malt, which gives the beer a smokiness and darkness not found in other saisons.
The beer is 6.8 percent ABV and 60 IBUs.
All of the above beers should be in stores within the next week or so. Happy drinking.
