It was not a pleasant start to the basketball season for Skyline High School as they dropped both ends of their twin-bill with St. John Friday Night, and neither game was close.
The girls dropped their contest to the highly regarded Lady Tigers 52-30. The first quarter was the difference in the game as St. John blitzed the Lady T-Birds, leading 15-0 at the end of the first stanza. The other three quarters were competitive, but the damage had already been done and Skyline never made a run.
Janessa Davis lead the Thunderbirds with 17 points. Kaitlyn Stark had 6, Alyssa Swonger 5 and Brooke Fisher chipped in a pair in the losing effort.

For the Skyline boys, the story was even more bleak. Down 32-6 after one frame, the inexperienced T-Birds were effectively out of it at that point. The Tigers didn’t let up on the gas, however. St. John led at halftime 62- 8 and 81-15 after three stanzas.
A 7-4 4th quarter resulted in the final score, 88-19.
Cole Patterson had 10 points, Brandon Abbott 6, Blake Lee 2 and Justin Holz chipped in a free throw to account for the Thunderbird scoring.
