The Skyline High School basketball teams split games with the Kinsley Coyotes Tuesday night. The Lady T-Birds won in a squeaker, 43-41 while the boys fell 52-43.
The girls game was close throughout, but the Lady Thunderbirds did have to come from behind in the second half to pull out the win.
Trailing 19-18 at halftime, Skyline outscored Kinsley by 3 points in the second half to claim the tense victory 43-41.
Kaitlyn Stark (12) and Alyssa Swonger (10) were in double figures to pace the Skyliners. 9 of Stark’s points were from behind the arc.
In arguably their best effort of the season, the boys were in the contest the entire way as opposed to some of their previous games which were over early on.
Outscoring the Coyotes in the second quarter, the Thunderbirds only trailed by 24-19 at halftime. They would get no closer, but Kinsley didn’t run away from them in the second half either as the game ended with the Coyotes ahead only 52-43, a step forward for the young T-Birds.
Cole Patterson hit 3 treys, 14 points total and Brandon Abbott had a big game, knocking in 16 points.
The girls record is now 3-2 while the boys remain winless at 0-5, but improvement seems to be apparent.
The boys and girls both have home games with Fowler on Friday night, game times 6:30 and 8:00 p.m.
