  • Melva Belle (Combs) Adams, 97, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at Pratt Rehabilitation and Residence Center in Pratt. She was born May 31, 1915 on a farm near Cullison, the daughter of John and Ida Virginia (Ellison) Combs. A lifelong resident of Pratt County, she was a homemaker and a farm wife.
    She was a member of the Sweet Adelines, Late Bloomers and Twin Mound Club, and was also a former member of the Cullison Methodist Church, transferring her membership to the Iuka Methodist Church.
    On April 3, 1935 she married Ivan Adams at Pratt. He survives.
    Other survivors include a son, Dwight Adams, Pratt; three daughters Marjorie (Loren) Hemphill, Plainville, Marie (Bud) Grimes, Pratt, and Marlene (Tom) Whitaker, Clearwater; two sisters, Marcella Cronk, and Marvella Randle, both of Pratt; 13 grandchildren, Cindy Reynolds, Doug Adams, Troy Hemphill, Tonya McGough, Tyler Hemphill, Tricia Hull, Brad Grimes, Lisa Parsons, Craig Grimes, Michelle Snell, Melissa Schneider, Tammy Lewis, and Valeri McCalla, 33 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Margaret Greiving; three sisters, Marie Gilham, Violet Maereker, and Beulah Gilmore; and a great-grandson, Aaron Hemphill.
    Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday at Larrison Mortuary 300 Country Club Rd., Pratt, where family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
    Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at the Iuka Methodist Church with John Havens officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt.
    Memorials can be made to the Iuka Methodist Church or to Pratt Rehabilitation and Residence Center both in care of the mortuary.
