  • Tommye Marie (Burkett) Megaffin, 88, entered into eternal peace on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at her home in Pratt. Tommye was born July 30, 1924, in Cotton Plant, Ark., the daughter of Thomas and Emily (Hoppenjans) Burkett.
    She attended Arkansas State Teachers College, earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, and applied her love of homemaking to her family as a homemaker and a substitute teacher in the Pratt and Skyline school systems.
    She graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark.
    She was an active member of the Pratt Presbyterian Church, was past president of both the American Society of University Women and Retired School Personnel, and was a member of the American Assoctiation of University Women, Book Club, Contributive Cuisine, Ladies Elks Club, and Park Hills Country Club.
    In 1948 she married the love of her life, John David Megaffin, in a ceremony held in Little Rock, Ark. John preceded her death on March 13, 1996. Tommye and John were life-long members of the local Pratt community, always involved in numerous civic activities, supporters of the local school systems and supporters of the PHS Greenbacks and PCC Beavers.
    Tommye loved golfing, sewing, bridge, traveling, shopping and gardening and was a loving mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed.
    She is survived by three sons, Bernard B. Megaffin, Defuniak Springs, Fla., John David (Judy) Megaffin, Allen, Texas, and Scott T. (Jennifer) Megaffin, Hopewell, N.J.; a daughter Emily Jane (Dave) Megaffin Lunghino, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; her sister Cleo Mattox, Little Rock, Ark.; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives and close friends.
    Arrangements will be provide by Larrison Mortuary. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, at the mortuary, 300 Country Club Rd., Pratt, where the family will receive friends and visitors on Thursday from 6-8 p.m.
    There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt, with the Rev. Stephen Wing officiating.
    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials gifts be made to the Pratt Presbyterian Church in care of the mortuary. Condolences may be left at www.larrisonmortuary.com.
