The Skyline Lady Thunderbirds went back and forth with the Fairfield Falcons Friday night at the Thunderdome before finally pulling away in the final quarter for a 51-38 win.
The opening stanza it looked like it could be anyone’s ballgame. The score stood 14-13 Skyline after the opening 8 minutes.
The second quarter, Skyline opened a bit of a cushion. Janessa Davis got the T-Birds going with an “and one’ off a back-cut against the Fairfield zone. Then Kaitlyn Stark heated up from long-range, netting a pair from behind the arc. Mycha Owens had a nice feed inside to Alyssa Swonger in the period also. Meanwhile, the Skyliners were cleaning the glass as the Falcons were only getting one chance per possession. It was 29-19 Skyline at the break.
Fairfield began connecting from 3 point land after the intermission and threatened to pull even in Q3. Kadi Richardson had 6 points in the frame helping the Thunderbirds maintain a 40-36 lead going into the finale.
When Brooke Fisher hit from underneath, it put Skyline in the drivers seat-up by 7 with time running out. Skyline took the air out of the ball down the stretch, and they were solid from the line as Fairfield went to hacking. Janessa Davis canned 4/4 freebies to help hold the Falcons off.
Skyline took the game 51-38 to improve to 5-4 on the season.
