In what has become an all-too-familiar refrain this season, the Skyline boys basketball team continued to take their lumps Friday night at home against the Fairfield Falcons, falling to the visitors 67-30.
The game was for all practical purposes decided after 1 period, the Falcons racing out to a 30-8 lead after one stanza. The T-Birds had balanced scoring in the frame, Kasey Gilpin, Cole Patterson, Dustin Weber and Brady McComb each scoring a bucket. The problem was that, although the scoring was balanced, there wasn’t enough of it; and the Fairfields were scoring seemingly at will.
Fairfield extended their lead even more in Q2, taking a 43-12 halftime advantage. Brandon Abbbott and Weber scored in the frame for Skyline.
Skyline’s best quarter was the third, in which they were only outscored 17-12 by the Falcons. Abbott had 6 points to pace the T-Birds in the third stanza.
The 4th quarter featured the running clock, both sides liberal in the use of reserves. The final tally was 67-30 in favor of Fairfield. Skyline drops to 0-9 on the year. Next week is the 54 Classic in Cunningham. The Thunderbirds draw Attica in the first round, Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.
