Betty L. Hughes-Johns, 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Pratt Rehabilitation and Residence Center. She was born June 14, 1925, at Pratt, the daughter of Wendell and Mollie Hylton Bales.
On Nov. 16, 1946, she married Gene Hughes. He preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1986. Later she married Harold M. Johns. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2002.
Betty was a longtime secretary at Haskins Elementary School in Pratt. She was a member of the Pratt Presbyterian Church, BPOE Elks Lodge No. 1451, and was past president of the Emblem Club. She volunteered at the Pratt Senior Center, Meals on Wheels and the Pratt County Historical Society.
Survivors include four sons, Mike and Deana Hughes of Pratt, Bob and Kathy Hughes of Burlington, Rick Hughes of Pratt, David and Kelly Hughes of South Haven; a sister, Dee and Kenny Stalcup of Joplin, Mo.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. The casket will remain closed. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21 at Larrison Mortuary with John Hamm presiding. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt.
