The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a federally funded program that provides a one-time benefit to help eligible households pay a portion of home energy costs. The program focuses on people who have disabilities, the elderly and families with children.
Applications can be submitted through March 29 and can be made online at www.dcf.ks.gov/services/ees/Pages/Energy/EnergyAssistance.aspx. Additional information may be obtained by calling 1-800-432-0043.
The combined gross income of all persons living at the address may not exceed 130 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.
The maximum monthly income for one person is $1,210. Add $429 for each additional person.
The amount of benefits depends on several factors, including income, the type of dwelling and type of heating fuel.
Last year, the program paid an average of $520 to more than 53,600 households.
