Saturday night's battle with Maize South would pit two teams that had similar records, similar styles of defense, and featuring strong inside play. Both teams play good defense.
South's Mariah Suchen is a big-time scorer and had eight of the team's twelve points at half-time. Pratt's Payton Hoeme upped that by one scoring nine of her twelve points the first half. Suchen scored another seven points the second half but the Greenback's Jenson Maydew scored eleven of her game-high fifteen points to counter any effort she and senior point guard McKenna Poytner would make. Senior Whitney Tilley added five points in the effort. At half-time the Frogs had a seven-point lead 19-12, from the end of the third quarter they had extended the lead to thirteen. Then a combination of several things allowed Maize to go on a 12-5 run in the final quarter. Besides Hoeme, Maydew, and Tilley, Amy Olson, Breann Becker, and Haylie Hook all contributed to the effort. The Pratt Greenbacks took third place in their tournament defeating the South Maize Mavericks 38-32. Both Payton Hoeme and Jenson Maydew made the All-Tournament team.
The Lady Greenbacks are now 8-5 on the season. Their next seven match-ups will be in the CKL, beginning with Kingman on Tuesday.
