The Lady Thunderbirds basketball team fell to Pretty Prairie 37-33 on Saturday in the 3rd place game of the 54 Classic at the ThunderDome.
After advancing into the winners bracket on the strength of a win over Cunningham in the opening round, the T-Birds dropped consecutive contests to Norwich and Pretty Prairie, placing them 4th in the tournament.
It was again post-intermission offensive woes that doomed the Lady T-Birds, as they could only manage 1 field goal the entire second half.
The Thunderbirds owned a 22-18 advantage at the break, but in the second half, Skyline had a dreadful time against Pretty Prairie’s defense. They did make 9 points from the charity stripe, but it was not enough to keep the Bulldogs from taking a 33-31 lead halfway through the 4th quarter.
Neither side converted much down the stretch. With 12 seconds left, Skyline trailed by 2 but had the ball. They misfired on their offensive possession, and then fouled. The resulting Pretty Prairie free throws accounted for the final 37-33 margin.
Kaitlyn Stark had 13 points to lead Skyline, her 4 field goals all coming in the 1st half and her 5 free throws all coming in the second half.
Their record now at 6-6 on the year, the Lady Thunderbirds continue their season at Stafford on Tuesday, a team they throttled early in the season. Game times are 4, 5, 6:30 and 8 p.m.
