Readers are invited to follow the Tribune's reporters on Twitter. Find us at CarolB_Tribune, NeilD_Tribune and GaleR_Tribune.
Sports reporter Neil DePew has taken the lead, letting people know who's playing and what he's covering, and giving early score reports, or teasing an upcoming story in the Tribune and on its website.
The goal, set by parent company GateHouse Media, is that every reporter tweet as a way of increasing the Tribune's reach and community interaction.
In recent webinars, reporters were told people want the news when they want it, where they want it and how they want it; most don't want to wait for the next print edition to hit their porches or mailboxes.
GateHouse trainers cited research: 175 million tweets were sent each day in 2012, 32 percent of Internet users are on Twitter and 11 new accounts are created every second.
Twitter growth is outpacing Facebook and growth is expected to be four times higher than Facebook through 2014.
