Five Greenback grapplers finished the night with unblemished records. Logan Baird and Bryce Stegman went 3-0 and Dylan Pelland, Hunter Kaufman and Jamie Mendoza each went 2-0.
Hugo Candia and Grant Vilcsek went 2-1 on the night. Hunter Coss, Brayan Balderrama, Brandon Guerra, Drew Roadhouse, Tristen Rader, Christian Masters, Traik Peltier, Cooper Doyle, Clinton James, Will Mass, Jacob Evans, Jackson Bailey and Dawson Cox each had one victory.
Everybody gained valuable experience heading into the Hoisington Invitational Tournament this Friday.
LMS wrestling coach Bryan Pixler said,“Overall, our effort was good but the wins did not come as easily as they did a year ago. Many of our athletes have never even seen a wrestling match before but still competed very well at our first event of the season.”
Pixler added, “Competition has improved in this area which means that we need to work harder to improve in order to be competitive. Challenge accepted.”
Wrestling begins at 3 PM on Friday at the Hoisington Recreation Center. Teams participating in the tournament are: Hoisington, Hays-TMP, Russell, Ellis, Pratt, Larned, Ellsworth and Smoky Valley.
