Willard Kay Whitney, 79, died Feb. 5, 2013, at the South Wind Hospice House, Pratt. He was born July 4, 1933. in Haviland, the son of Willard Faye and Mable Madgealine (Woodward) Whitney.
Willard was a farmer/rancher, carpenter and was co-owner of the Willieburger Cafe, Haviland. He had lived in Rock, Kan., Empire, Calif., Greensburg, Wichita and Haviland since 1958. He was a member of the Haviland United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, and the Kiowa County Gun Club.
On November 2, 1951, Willard married Beverly Richardson in Haviland. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Kurt Whitney and wife Kristi, Haviland; two daughters, Cindy Nelson and husband Melvin, Shawnee, Okla., and Shari Hall and husband Shane, Mullinville; six grandchildren, Lance Nelson and wife Heather, Pratt, Ryan Nelson and wife Jessica, Houston, Texas, Lacy Nelson, Enid, Okla., Dustin Hall and wife Cassie, and Preston Hall and wife Kim all of Manhattan, and Heidi Dawson, Pratt; four great-grandchildren, Mia Rose Hall, Lane Hall, Colton Dawson, and Wyatt Hall; and one brother, Kenneth Whitney and wife Lora Lee, Haviland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Duward Whitney and a great-grandson Mason Hall.
Funeral services and celebration of Willard's life will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in the Haviland United Methodist Church with Revs. Mark Fillmore and David Crisp officiating. Burial will follow in Haviland Cemetery, Haviland. A visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg.
