On Feb. 8, 1953, Evelyn and Dorothy Law married brothers, Donovan and Arlyn Bradford in a double wedding ceremony in Jetmore. Ten years ago, all four celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Unfortunately, Arlyn Bradford died a few years ago. However, as the 60th anniversary rolls around, Donovan and Evelyn will be joined by family members, including Evelyn's mother and her mother's older sister, at a celebration Feb. 9 in Wichita.
"How often would a mother celebrate her daughter's 60th anniversary?" asked Kent Bradford, Donovan and Evelyn's son.
Donovan and Evelyn grew up in Jetmore, and lived in Dodge City and Kinsley before moving to Pratt, where they currently reside.
They have two sons, Kent, Wichita, and Doran, Independence; daughters, Donis Bradford, Pratt, and Jolyn Bradford, Hutchinson, and Melodie Self, deceased; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
"I think our marriage lasts because of our faith in Jesus, our love for each other, being the best of friends, and the love of our family," Evelyn Bradford said.
In addition, they share an interest in music, playing guitars with their daughter Donis.
Before they were married, Don would come to Evelyn's house and play his harmonica for her. After they were married, she bought his first steel guitar for his birthday.
