  • The Greenback Wrestling Team went into the CKL Tournament looking to regain the League Championship.  We wrestled with 4 opens, which, in the end, proved to be too much to overcome.
The # 10 ranked Smoky Valley Squad ripped the championship away from the # 8 ranked Greenbacks in the final round of the round-robin format.  We lost some critical matches that took away placing points in a day where we had the lead on and off all day long.  We will quickly move on from our disappointing 2nd place team result at League.  This week our focus will be on making a statement at Regionals.
113  Cesar Regalado, jr., 3-0, League Champion.  Cesar pinned his way through the CKL competition in workmanlike fashion.  Cesar is ready to get to Regionals and State so that he can show what he has been working so hard to accomplish. Season Record: 23-3
120 Gabriel McAbee, so., 1-3.  Gabriel wrestled well on the day and has improved every week.  This year of experience will be invaluable for Gabe.
126 Zack Dipman, sr., 1-1, 2nd.  Zack had a slow day and we know that he can have a much better performance in each of the next two weeks.  Zack has been unlucky in either the numbers in his bracket or receiving byes and we need more mat time, so we will be simulating match situations even more this week in practice. Season Record 6-4
132 Hudson Swift, so., 0-3.  Hudson had a rough day and will have to pick it up this week in Augusta.
138 Brendan Pribil, jr., 4-1, 2nd.  Brendan had 3 pins on the day and looked sharp and aggressive.  We are very pleased at his progress after missing most of the first part of the season due to injury.  Brendan is working hard and it is starting to pay off.  We will continue on that route, looking forward to Regionals in Augusta on Friday.  Season Record:  7-5
145 Joshua Ash, so., 3-2, 3rd.  Josh wrestled really well on the day.  Joshua is an extremely light 145 pounder and you could not tell that on the mat today.  Joshua wrestled well every match and got us critical points and ended his season on a very positive note.  Joshua has not wrestled 50 percent of his matches at this heavier weight, so he cannot compete at Regionals.  However, I am very pleased with his progress and Joshua is primed for a strong junior season next year.  His future will be very bright.
152 Mitchell Baird, sr., 3-1, 2nd.  Mitchell had a good day, starting the tournament off with the #3 All-Class wrestler from Halstead, Alex Thibault.  This would usually be a finals matchup, but the round robin format was not set up with the top two meeting as their last match.  Mitchell wrestled tough, losing to Thibault 3-9 to start the day.  Mitchell then reeled off 3 wins to place 2nd in a good prep for a very tough Regional bracket where Mitchell will see several ranked wrestlers.  Mitchell will be ready on Friday; I have no doubt.  Season Record: 23-9
Page 2 of 2 - 160 Taylor White, jr., 1-2, 3rd.  After losing to the #3 in 4A, Spencer Bird of Smoky Valley, Taylor had a disappointing loss to the Lyons wrestler, but finished out strong with a win against Hillsboro’s Jesse Meier.  Taylor has seen marked improvements on the year and he is dangerous every time he steps on the mat, so we will see what happens on Friday.
170 Weston Riner, sr., 3-1, 2nd.  Weston is looking very sharp and with 2 pins and a third win in a grind it out situation, Weston is primed and ready for a good showing at Regionals in Augusta.  Weston’s only loss on the day was to the #1 in 4A, Trevor Whittaker of Smoky Valley.   Season Record:  18-11.
220 Austin Gates, sr., 2-0, League Champion.  Austin won his championship with 2 falls on the day.  Austin has set himself up for a good seed at our Regional and we are looking for another solid performance in Augusta this week. Record:  25-8.
