A controlled burn of an unoccupied house caused excitement in the Sawyer area late Tuesday morning. Jonathan Flora had notified the Pratt County Sheriff and the Sawyer fire chief but when the set the old abandoned house on fire a neighbor who didn't know about the fire called it in and said the house was fully engulfed. Sawyer fire chief Steven Flora quickly set the facts straight. Sawyer fire trucks did go to the site one mile west of Sawyer and were on standby in case the fire would spread. They also kept a spray of water on a small storage building just a few feet from the house. However, the shed did suffer some distorted siding from the heat. The remains of the house will be removed and grass planted. The house was burned because it was continually losing roof shingles and siding.
