A familiar trio of singers with Texas connections is coming home to Kansas after spending three years on concert tours.
The Texas Tenors, composed of JC Fisher, Marcus Collins and John Hagan, will perform with the Wichita Symphony at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28 at Century II Concert Hall in Wichita.
Many will remember the trio from their appearance on America's Got Talent in 2009 where they eventually took fourth place.
Pratt first became acquainted with JC Fisher when he was a featured performer at the Miss Kansas Pageant. He also met his future wife, Miss Kansas 1998 Jennifer Vannatta at the pageant. The audience was surprised and thrilled when he actually proposed to her on stage.
Since the trio performed on America's Got Talent, they have traveled and performed extensively. They have performed almost 500 concerts in three years with performances in almost every state plus overseas concerts in China and the United Kingdom, Fisher said.
The Wichita performance will actually be their second performance in Kansas. They had an earlier performance in Hutchinson. Many in Pratt took advantage of the closeness of the Hutchinson performance and made the trip to hear the Tenors' unique sound.
With their combination of country roots, classic sounds, gospel and original music, the trio is very excited about what is happening in their lives.
Their performance on America's Got Talent has opened many doors for the trio and helped them start a growing process.
"America's Got Talent helped us get things going. We have grown together," Fisher said.
The trio does a variety of music styles including country to classical to Broadway in three-part harmony. They cover music from John Denver, Alabama and Andrew Lloyd Weber.
Their variety of musical styles has proven popular and drawn large audiences that fill their performance venues.
"We've been selling out our concerts," Fisher said. "It's a unique production. It's different from any concert you've seen."
For those wanting an early sampling of the Texas Tenors, they will perform "God Bless the USA" on the Fox USA Morning show on Monday, Feb. 8. They will also be performing two weeks later on the Mike Huckabee Show.
Fisher, a graduate of Wichita State University, moved to Katy, Texas after graduation. He worked in Galveston and worked on cruise ships where he met Collins who had also performed on soap operas. Fisher also sang in Italy for two years.
Eventually, Fisher and Collins hooked up with Hagan, a highly regarded operatic tenor. The three decided to give America's Got Talent a try. Although they just threw their music together for the competition, the exposure helped launch their singing career.
